Welcome to Oregon Children’s Theatre – Stan Foote

Welcome to Oregon Children’s Theatre’s 30th Anniversary Season!

Judy Moody & Stink: The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Treasure Hunt is different because it is a “rolling world premiere.” What that means is that we share the premiere equally with six other theater companies and no one theater claims it as the first, the only.

A co-commission of this size is historic in its scope. It has never been attempted, but all seven of the Artistic Directors involved believed in our ability to work as a team. Collaboratively, we hired a playwright, Allison Gregory. Seven artistic directors agreed on protocols on how we would give feedback to the playwright and respected those agreements. We sat in workshops together and brought our individual expertise and ideas to the script, and when those ideas were in conflict we compromised and worked with Allison to find the best idea. We were respectful and thoughtful of each other’s input and objectives. We thought about our audience and the youth we serve. We were faithful to Judy Moody book author, Megan McDonald’s original characters, plot lines, and intent. I am proud of all of us and honored to be a part of this group!

And that is why I love theater and the arts, because our work habits and ideals rest in these concepts:

• Work as a team
• Share equally
• Collaborate
• Be respectful and thoughtful
• Compromise
• The best idea versus our own idea
• Think deeply about our audience and the youth we serve

I wish the leadership of our country had taken a couple of theater classes or worked on a play. Our world would look very different.
