Artslandia Magazine is Portland’s Performing Arts Annual publication providing readers a single resource to find their art. The Artslandia annual launch party serves as the springboard for the publication release as well as celebration of the start of the arts season. This year, hosted and sponsored by Roche Bobois, the event will bring together a who’s who of the Portland arts and culture community for REACT: a collaborative project of Artslandia, Portland Chamber Orchestra, Portland Street Art Alliance, and Echo Theater.
Honoring the launch of the magazine and of the season, Artslandia and the Portland Chamber Orchestra chose to collaborate and pursued a partnership with Portland Street Art Alliance to inspire art and music reactionary body of work. For REACT, graffiti artist, Galen Malcolm, and some of the finest classical musicians in the region will react to what they see and hear from each other and will adapt their own creative contributions on the spot to forge a unique partnership pairing. Always seeking new ways to innovate, Artslandia leadership fell in love with the project and made the vision a reality and found a new collaborative addition with Echo Theatre who will serve to energize and activate the space in other fun ways! Refreshments and fun takeaways are also part of the afternoon as well as the release of Portland’s favorite arts resource – Artslandia Magazine.
Artslandia Cover Artist, Karen Wippich, will showcase her work inside in a special exhibition featuring Bryce Caster with the Broken Consort and Jacob Breedlove, a musician, puppeteer, artist. and teacher. Drink sponsors Cana’s Feast, A to Z Wineworks, and Widmer Brothers Brewing round out the afternoon providing refreshments for all in attendance.
The arts being as much about process as it is about product, the afternoon of innovative arts-making invites audience members to experience the arts in a non-controlled, fun, and exciting environment. The collaborators see the arts as living, breathing, and evolving. As such, experiences like this that are rooted in spontaneity and the unexpected – bring a freshness, levity, and new perspective to the collaborators and arts lovers.
