Portland Playhouse’s visionary founders are known for creative risk-taking and community engagement in Northeast Portland
Born: California, Virginia
Arrived: 2008, 2008
Favorite Place: Peninsula Park
Why? We love living in northeast Portland because of the vivid cultural scene. In Peninsula Park, we see multi-generational families of African American, Latino, Somali, and Russian people enjoying barbecues, picnics, games and organized sports. It’s a great place to meet people, which usually happens when our kids run off and play with other kids and then slowly the parents get together and introduce ourselves. Also in northeast, are some fantastic artists and companies like Oluyinka Akinjiola’s, Rejoice! Diaspora Dance Theatre, Shalanda Sim’s, World Stage Theatre, Passin’ Arts, and La’Tevin Ellis’s, Confrontation Theatre. And of course, we love swimming in the pool (and fountain)!
Brian: “Portland is…. a great place to come and chase your dreams.”
Nikki: “Portland has changed…my idea of living with intention.”
