Nick Fish is a Portland City Commissioner and proud to serve as the Arts Commissioner. He’s also an advocate for affordable homes, older adults, and small businesses. When he’s not in city hall, you’ll find Nick listening to jazz, riding his bike, or watching his son play soccer. @CommishFish

Portland Japanese Garden / SW

In the afternoon, head to the Portland Japanese Garden––one of the most authentic and celebrated gardens outside of Japan. They recently finished a major expansion, designed by famed Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. The new cultural village has a great cafe for lunch during your tour.

University of Portland Pilots Game / NoPo

Cheer one of our outstanding women’s soccer teams. My daughter and I love watching the University of Portland Pilots just as much as the professional Timbers and Thorns.

Gallery Stroll / NW

After a leisurely morning at your favorite coffee shop, head to one of Portland’s many local art galleries. Some of my favorites are PDX Contemporary Art, Elizabeth Leach Gallery, and Froelick Gallery.

NW Dance Project / NE

Catch a modern dance performance from the NW Dance Project, which presents unique, bold, and stirring performances.

Browse Independent Bookstores / NE & SE

Spend a couple hours browsing our city’s plethora of independent bookstores, such as Mother Foucault’s Bookshop, Monograph Bookwerks, or Broadway Books.

Oregon Rail Heritage Center / SE

Head to the Oregon Rail Heritage Center for a fun trip with kids (or train fans of any age!). Educational exhibits from our state’s railroad history surround three working steam locomotives. Tickets for the Foundation’s Holiday Express go on sale October 15!
