evin Ledo’s mural Under the Same Sky is a message of unity and love brought to our city by the Paint Outside the Lines campaign. The project works with community groups to bring together artists of all different backgrounds, races, and religions to create art that reminds us that our differences are a reason for celebration and not hate. It’s essential that we keep this in mind in times like these when the people leading our country are making decisions that divide us instead of bringing us together. Students from David Douglas High School and rise (Refugee and Immigrant Student Empowerment) worked with the artist to create this mural of a happy little girl looking toward the sky, under which we are all equal and deserving of the same rights. Their messages about belonging and diversity are stenciled on the girl’s body in Arabic, Swahili, English, and Somali.
