In Mulieribus has given the region the gift of December concerts since 2004. This year, IM will present concerts at two favorite Portland venues: St. Mary’s Cathedral and St Philip Neri Church, the location of our debut concert.

Medieval carols and contemporary songs for the holidays will explore ancient meditations on the rose in midwinter—its beauty, symbolism, and metaphors. The program features works spanning from the 13th to the 21st centuries, including music by Perotin, Nicola LeFanu, local composer John Vergin, and Ivan Moody’s Cum natus esset Iesus, a piece he wrote for In Mulieribus in 2013, and which we are excited to share again as we approach its 10-year anniversary.

Come, relish in the wonder, expectation, and joys of the season with In Mulieribus, a time-honored December tradition for Portland audiences since 2004!

ABOUT THE ENSEMBLE

In Mulieribus (the Latin phrase meaning “among women”) – is a women’s vocal ensemble dedicated to strengthening community through the art of music. The ensemble specializes in works written before 1750 and champions new repertoire by women composers and for women’s voices.

In Mulieribus (IM) is the only fully professional women’s chamber vocal ensemble in the Pacific Northwest that focuses on early music (repertoire prior to 1750) and champions new repertoire by women composers and for women’s voices. The ensemble has presented a highly acclaimed annual concert series since 2007, appears frequently as a featured guest ensemble throughout the region, and is regularly broadcast on nationally syndicated radio shows such as Performance Today. The ensemble’s CDs have garnered praise from outlets such as The Oregonian and Early Music America.

IM highlights works by women, seeking to raise the profile of women composers who remain underrepresented throughout the landscape of classical music. IM also sponsors free workshops/classes, performs benefit concerts, and offers free concert tickets to those served by local human services organizations as part of an ongoing commitment to serve the community and make concerts accessible to all.

PRAISE FOR IN MULIERIBUS

“Thank you so much for this respite from the events of the day (and year) and the reminder that beauty and peace still exist in the world…How wonderful to have this group in Portland.” – IM Patron

“After the concert, the audience was so calm and left so quietly, many with smiles on their faces lost in another world. Given the times that we are living through, I felt how much this just soaked into our collective being!” – IM Patron
